We have started a nonfiction unit with the start of March. We will study nonfiction text and will research different animals to write a nonfiction piece of our own. I am really excited because this unit matches up perfectly with a scratch art projects the students will be doing in Art. Students will be creating a scratch art piece with Mrs. Hoffert and will be researching that animal.
On Thursday, we took a trip to the library to dust off the encyclopedias. Many students had not even seen these before and were very intrigued. I told them that one day they would be able to tell their children and grandchildren what an encyclopedia is. They couldn't believe that this is what we used instead of the internet to do projects in the past. Students will check out a book on Monday about their animal and will also use 3 websites to do research. We should be experts about an animal and PARAGRAPH WRITING at the end of this unit.
